In this essay we will first define the term "Jewish State", as it was defined in the early ages of Zionism by Herzl in his book "Der Judenstaat" () and the Basle Congress in We refer to Herzl because he is regarded as the founder of modern Jewish nationalism, as expressed in the Zionist idea, and as the father of modern Israel.   When it comes to undermining the legitimacy of the Jewish state, there is no thesis too absurd to be published. In fact, one can assume that any book attacking the idea of Jewish nationalism will gain a following (and even garner awards), regardless of how preposterous the underlying thesis.

Isaiah’s book, according to Jewish tradition written some 2, years ago in First-Temple-period Jerusalem, is a singularly rich source of the Jewish understanding of the end times and the Messiah.   In “A State at Any Cost,” a controversial historian explores David Ben-Gurion’s single-minded dream of building a Jewish state in : Francine Klagsbrun.

Der Judenstaat (German, literally The Jews' State, commonly rendered as The Jewish State) is a pamphlet written by Theodor Herzl and published in February in Leipzig and Vienna by M. Breitenstein's Verlags-Buchhandlung. It is subtitled with "Versuch einer modernen Lösung der Judenfrage" ("Proposal of a modern solution for the Jewish question") and was originally Author: Theodor Herzl.

Zionism and the Jews. The Idea of the Jewish State. by Ben Halpern. Harvard University Press. $ Mr. Halpern’s treatise sets out to be, not a history of the Zionist movement, or even of Zionist thought, but an analysis, as the word goes, of certain Zionist notions in terms of what “social scientists” call a “conceptual framework,” the main lines of which the author.

Introduction. Theodore Herzl's pamphlet Der Judenstaat, The Jewish State, was published in It heralded the coming of age of Zionism. Several articles and books advocating the Zionist idea had appeared beginning in the s, and small Zionist groups such as Hovevei Tzion (Lovers of Zion) had begun recruiting immigrants to Palestine, but no group had a coherent.

Among his studies of the modern Jewish experience are A Clash of Heroes () and The Idea of the Jewish State (). Herzl's famed book reads more like a manual to colonize a land- the way Christians had- but for Jews, than a Jewish national liberation movement.

His book is totally divorced from Jewish history. The focus of the book is not about the land of Israel, in fact, Herzl is indifferent to the Jewish State being in Palestine or in Argentina/5.

The present volume is a complete and unabridged republication of The Jewish State, reproduced from the edition published by the American Zionist Emergency Council, New York, Translated by Sylvie D'Avigdor, it includes an introduction by Louis Lipsky, and a biography of Herzl based on the work of Alex by:   Arts Book Bag: “Politically Incorrect: Why a Jewish State is a Bad Idea” by Ofra Yeshua-Lyth; “Democratizing America: Shaf Nader and the Founding of the Impossible College” by Dimitra Doukas.

Idea of the Jewish state. Cambridge, Harvard University Press,   Free kindle book and epub digitized and proofread by Project Gutenberg. The most comprehensive Zionist collection ever published, The Zionist Ideas: Visions for the Jewish Homeland—Then, Now, Tomorrow sheds light on the surprisingly diverse and shared visions for realizing Israel as a democratic Jewish state.

Building on Arthur Hertzberg’s classic, The Zionist Idea, Gil Troy explores the backstories, dreams, and legacies. ?An eye-opening memoir on the struggle between religion and domocracy in Israel. Israel claims to be a modern democratic state, but Israeli writer Ofra Yeshua-Lyth reveals some startling truths about modern day Israel: how although up to 70% of Israelis do not follow the Jewish religion, all citizens are subject to laws designed to favor religious Israelis over all others/5.

This is a history of the idea of Israel as “the Jewish state”—the nation state of the Jewish people. But since there is no way to divorce the history of this idea from the political history of the Zionist movement and the state of Israel, it ends up being the history of an idea as it affects the world.

Ultimately, however, The Jewish State disappoints; Hazony devotes most of his book not to solutions but to an almost paranoid polemic against the culturally prominent Israeli intellectuals whom he sees as traitors to the idea of a Jewish state for Jews.

In Search of Israel is a major new history of this struggle from the late nineteenth century to our time. When Theodor Herzl convened the First Zionist Congress inno single solution to the problem of “normalizing” the Jewish people emerged. Herzl proposed a secular-liberal “New Society” that would be home to Jews and non-Jews alike.

New Israeli Bestseller Argues That Need for Jewish State, Story of Exile Are Myths. By Jonathan Cook. Theodore Herzl was the first Jew who projected the Jewish question as an international problem.

"The Jewish State," written fifty years ago, was the first public expression, in a modern language, by a modern Jew, of a dynamic conception of how the solution of the problem could be accelerated and the ancient Jewish hope, slumbering in Jewish memory for.
